LUNI (pronounced "Loony") is an acronym for "Like You Never Imagined". It is the name of this twenty seven year old Lagos bred, Benin born Nigerian hip hop artist.
A distinctive delivery and a flair for witty, deceptively intelligent lyrics makes this act particularly absorbing. Beginning as a young teen clumsily mimicking Tupac in the privacy of his living room while struggling to recite the lyrics, his love grew deeper and with that, his daily menu of hip-hop artists increased, which included Biggy, Jay-z and Nas.
He began to pencil down his own songs and developed an acute sense of lyricism which was enforced by the fact that young LUNI was actually an amateur novelist and poet.
He began recording his own music in 2001 but perfectionist tendencies prevented him from putting them out. In his own words, "I knew I had a long way to go and I wasn't going to settle for being another half-baked rapper".
He went on to university (A.B.U, Zaria) and blossomed into a truly prolific rhyme junkie. He began performing at school shows earning the reputation of a crowd pleaser and a dreaded freestyle/rap battle mc.
He was at this time called "Thrill". His first feel of commercial success came in 2004 when a love song he recorded titled "Downwitcha" was given by a friend (without his knowledge or permission) to a radio DJ (Kaduna’s Supreme fm's top DJ Umar socials) and was voted no1 on the Supreme FM chart. The song became an anthem and the then "Thrill" performed the track at several shows, alongside some of Nigeria's biggest acts, the biggest being M-TEL's nationwide "Music talk".
He later became LUNI

E-Gnyte is Back with another Brand New Hit song titled "Iworiwo" featuring Henry Harmony (Producer of other BIG HIT SINGLES from E-Gnyte such as "This Kind Party" ft. J Martins and "Ebelebe" Sherry Koko).
In "Iworiwo", a sensational inspirational mid tempo song with a very danceable beat, E-Gnyte sings about the hardship he went through on his way to success which he has attained. He basically tells us to hold on to hope and say no to defeat. This song is sensational because of the ease in which E-Gnyte delivers the inspirational message in the song. It is a calming yet touching, inspiring and absolutelty adorable track (A recipe for a HIT).
Iworiwo is a well written song and is infectious as everyone will identify with the message. Henry Harmony also did the song justice with his smooth silky vocals. We expect nothing less from E-Gnyte and Ekobeats. THE BEST PART IS "Iworiwo" is available for FREE DOWNLOAD.

Okoto the Messenger the movie tells the story of Okoto Igwe (Pascal Atuma) and his girlfriend Angelina(JJ Bunny),both born and raised in Africa, lives in America but stuck with the principle of “don’t forget your roots” , and always operating within the African community in America. Boyfriend and girlfriend, a match made in heaven, they both love to have fun at the expense of telling it as it is to their fellow Africans. Okoto travels to Africa and captures living conditions of the close relatives of the other Africans living and enjoying America as if it is their country, forgetting their loved ones at home, and brings it to their face, supported by Angelina 100%, he confronts all of them, face to face, CNN style. Operation get your **** together or we will tell it as it is.
Okoto is busy trying to tell others about their wrong doings, forgetting that he is committing the highest abomination in African culture, living with his girlfriend Angelina when they are not married, not because Angelina doesn’t want to get married, but because Okoto is not ready. Drama meets comedy at a crossroad in this film.
The film also features Aloma Wright from the TV Show “Scrubs”, Oscar Atuma from My American Nurse 1 and 2, Ghana’s International star Vida Darko, Bill Lee Brown, Nollywood Veterans Ben Nwosu, Ashley Nwosu, Emeka Ani, Nora Roberts etc, and a bunch of upcoming talents like Dee Dabira, Ikenna Ewuchie, Serge Murphy Ukah, Jennifer Oguzie, Stanley Atuma Sierra Leone’s actress Christine Lebbie and many more.

"When you're finished changing, you're finished" - Benjamin Franklin
PMAN (The Performing Musicians' Employers Association of Nigeria) had their Annual Delegates Conference to Elect New Leadership for the next two years on Wednesday the 26th of January. The Conference was held in Osogbo, Osun State and hosted Delegates, Members and Representatives of PMAN from all over Nigeria who were present to decide the future of the Union. The conference also saw the brief attendance of PMAN's founding President, the Legendary King Sunny Ade, current Governor of Osun State Alhaji Rauf Aregbesola, as well as Former President Chief Tony Okoroji.
The truth of the matter is that, over the years, there has been a major disconnect between PMAN and the very professionals it is supposed to represent and/or protect. At its inception, this is a snapshot of who the founding members were: Chief (Mrs.) Christy Essien Igbokwe, King Sunny Ade (KSA), Evang. Sunny Okosuns (late), Chief Ebenezer Obey, Lemmy Jackson, Tee-Mac Omatshola Iseli, Emma Ogosi, Laolu Akins, Funmi Adams, Oby Onyioha, Maliki Showman, Harry Mosco, King Pago, Bobby Benson etc. Anyone remotely familiar with Nigerian Music History will agree that this was in the very least, an excellent representation of who were the significant PERFORMING MUSICIANS of that era. Part of the Union's Constitution that these great artistes put together can be found online at http://pmanonline.net/about.html.
Fast forward to today; PMAN is now a shadow of what it used to be, and essentially a disgrace to the legacy those that came before us put forth. Nigerian Musicians are achieving worldwide success in leaps and bounds, yet a snapshot of today's union shows that absolutely NONE of the significant musicians representing Nigeria are involved in the runnings of PMAN. Nigerian Musicians have accomplished great things in spite of a Union that no longer cares or caters to their needs; in spite of a Union that has been run down by greed, poor leadership and an archaic mentality; in spite of a Union that has alienated the very Professionals it is supposed to care for.
They say you should "be the change you want to see in the world". It was with this in mind, that today's crop of Nigerian Musicians attempted to rejoin PMAN en masse, and get involved in its leadership. We heard through the grapevine that the current administration's leadership term had come to end, and that the Organization was as frustrated as we the artistes were about the state of things. There were tales of offices shutting down, of staff salaries being unpaid, of rundown or nonexistent studios around the country and a total lack of organization; and so the artistes held a series of meetings. We all came up with a team of executives amongst ourselves, that we felt represented a cross section of Nigerian Music today. A team that did not necessarily comprise of the most popular musicians, but a team that on the one hand represented a solid cross section of Nigerian Music, as well as one that would be willing and able to put in the work necessary to right a sinking ship. The team included names like: eLDee The Don, Mr Cool, KSB, M.I., Sound Sultan, Ed Jatto, Efe Omoruegbe of Now Music etc.
The team made the journey to Osogbo along with other people including D'banj, Don Jazzy, Jesse Jagz, Wande Coal, 2Shotz, Dr Sid, D'Prince, Ice Prince, Baba Dee, and yours truly Banky W. Other artistes who were part of the meetings but did not make the trip included P'Square, 9ice, Tuface Idibia, WizKid and Skales. That we were able to assemble such an incredible cast of people under such short notice was a miracle in and of itself, but it also goes to show the frustration with the way things are and the willingness to work to bring about change. The purpose of our making the trip was to appeal to the powers that be at PMAN to vote for and put in the new team of leaders, and give them (us) a chance at resuscitating a failed Union; a chance at restoring PMAN to its glory days; a chance at restoring it to a place of relevance and a chance at Uniting the Body with the very members its supposed to comprise of. Safe to say I believe even the founders would have been proud at the Contingent of Artistes behind this movement, as I'm sure that's what they envisioned when they started this years ago.
What we found when we arrived in Osogbo was heart breaking. A system that is in rot and decay; a mindset that is so stuck in the ways of the past and an unwillingness to accept the realities of the present, much less step into the future. One would think that PMAN officials and delegates would accept the appeals coming from its Musicians; if they had accepted us, PMAN would automatically become a force to be reckoned with overnight as it would now TRULY represent all Nigerian Musicians, young and old; those in the limelight and those in the twilight of their careers.
Sadly, this was not to be. We came with respect on our minds, appealing to those that had been in the rundown system for years, to let us help rebuild it. We came "dobale-ing"; we pleaded, begged, offered all kinds of opportunities and the resources at our disposal. We offered to lead but to do so by serving. We offered to help restore relevance; to empower PMAN Nationally and at the State levels and so much more.
We were met with resistance, bitterness, slander and ignorance. People so afraid of any kind of change that they would rather cling on to a sinking ship than reach out and get on to a helicopter. And those that were apparently willing to accept the change, expected us to play the same old ignorant tactics that our corrupt Politicians play to get there. Ironically, what we saw yesterday was reflective of what is wrong with Nigeria as a whole.
We have one message to PMAN, and to Nigeria as a whole. Change will come. It will. They say the only thing that remains constant in Life is Change. The fact that Change will come is inevitable; we can choose to embrace it or evade it, but it will be to our progress or peril.. our development or demise. History is rife with instances where people were given an opportunity to choose either of these options, and the consequences that followed. PMAN was given an opportunity to choose to make History and to choose to change the failed ways of the past, and it declined, because we refused to stoop to reducing our standards. Dear PMAN Delegates (and Nigerian Politicians), please understand that we will NOT buy (or sell) Votes. What we are working for is so much more long term and the payout is infinitely greater than the here and now.
What they refused to realize is this: the ACTUAL Performing Musicians and Recording Artistes in Nigeria are determined to right the wrongs of our industry, with or without PMAN. That they declined is inconsequential to us. Our journey continues, but we strongly believe that they will remember and regret this day.
Our message to PMAN is as Benjamin Franklin once said “When you’re finished changing, you’re finished”.
- Banky W.

Dampte, real names, Oluwaseun Oluyole is a Nigerian artiste based in Lagos, Nigeria. He was born in the 80’s and has 4 other siblings. The first son of an Evangelist mother and Pastor Father, Dampte finished his High School Education in Lagos, Nigeria and a graduate of Bellevue University, Nebraska, USA where he bagged his Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and emphasis in Business.
Dampte started his music career at a tender age like many that came before him. However, his path to recognition did not follow the convention. Dampte first had the real taste of music at a tender age. He grew up listening to the likes of King Sunny Ade (KSA), Ebenezer Obey e.t.c. Now do you begin to wonder why such great artistes do not play a major influence on his music? Your guess is as good as ours.
Dampte, understandably, claims he gets his influences from the likes of Jay Z, R. Kelly, LL cool J, Jadakiss, Styles P, Warren G, Snoop, Treach (Naughty by Nature), 2pac, Biggie Smalls, Wale, K’naan and a host of others. He also claims to take bites off Naija’s own NAETO C.
Dampte came into contact, and fell deeply in love with Hip Hop in 1994 after listening to a musical compilation of some of the afore-mentioned artistes’ tracks. 5 years later, after a lot of self penning, Dampte recorded his first solo effort titled “J-E-S-U-S”, where he featured Rocksteady (Then of the now defunct 2nd Avenue) and Wreck (Now a member of Dem Mama Soldiers)
After a long hiatus in the United States due to education, Dampte returned to the music scene with a massive hit single “Tinkolo” that features up and rising R&B star YQ. The single which was released in the first quarter of 2009 made it to various charts across Nigeria and beyond. He followed his success with another massive hit single “Wapa” which also made it to various countdowns. Not relenting, Dampte, now known for his Hit- dropping prowess followed it with “Ghetto”, another song that shook up the airwaves.
Dampte, a gifted writer and performer has got quite a repertoire. He's been holding it down since before hiphop started ruling the Nigerian airwaves.
Dampte has successfully rocked audiences across the country and beyond. His stage performances have always been off the hook.
"I used to love to just sit down and write but now, I sit down and spit." He said recently in an interview Yeepa Magazine.
Dampte’s latest effort, Go Get-Her is been acclaimed another massive hits that is making people grin from ear to ear. From an industry that is somewhat over-populated, Dampte is beginning to prove he can stand on his own and compete with the front runners. In July of 2010, at the Tom Tom anniversary event, Dampte shared stage with some of Nigeria’s finest musicians from D’banj to 2face.
"I've got more anthems than any National.." Dampte spits in a track off his soon to debut album.
Dampte like many cats started off in the choir as a kid until he discovered and honed his talent for rhymes, wordplay, metaphors and the ability to weave these and make sense.
He first came with “wine your tinkolo” which became a massive hit, He soon dropped another hit single 'Wapa' and sure soon enough followed it with 'Ghetto', the later premiering recently and set to burn up the charts as we speak.
He has shot over four videos, three of which have been released and are getting mad airplays.
His soon to debut album has got something in it for everyone. From laid back tunes to fast paced rhythms, Dampte has managed to compose and successfully record over 14 hits. Watch out for tracks like Street Magic, SwaGr like we, LosGidi Certified, Who I be, Ghetto and lots more.
His debut album titled “Los Gidi Certified” hits stores nationwide November 28th, 2010.

DAMPTE - GO GET GET
E-GNYTE's story of how he got his record deal (Ekobeats) is totally different from what most Nigerian artistes go through.
Born and raised in Yaounde, struggled to attain to GCE level but due to lack of funds he decided to turn to his true passion (Music).
He did a couple of collabos with some artistes which never got enough airplay, that did not discourage him from realizing his dream.
In 2003, his family decided to relocate to Nigeria. Due to the regular stress that come with relocations, things became really tough but E-gnyte did not lose focus. After a few collabos with some upcoming artistes which also did not enjoy massive airplay, he formed a group of three guys in Owerri named D’ HUMDINGERS. The individual talents and agenda of the group members eventually led to its breakup.
He decided to go solo and later travelled to Lagos (Home of entertainment in Naija) where he recorded his first two singles. It was in the course of promoting his new singles, an A & R from EKOBEATS RECORDS got hold of his CD. One month later, he received a call from one of the Managers at Ekobeats. He was invited for an interview a week later. In three weeks, he got the deal. This marked the end of his struggles.
E-GNYTE - MARRY ME
THE sustained closure of No 10, a highbrow nightclub in Victoria Island, Lagos, which is owned by the former skipper of the Super Eagles, Jay Jay Okocha, is raising eyebrows.
Before now, the rendezvous was easily the hippest in that part of town judging by the high profile persons that gathered there on a daily basis.
It was not out of place to run into politicians, senior bank executives, as well as upwardly mobile members of the society at No 10.
Its patronage was evidently buoyed by the personae of the award winning footballer, who established the retreat.
The fun spot was first shut down last year to allow for a complete overhauling of the property – or so their clientele thought.
Many months after they closed their doors to patrons, life is yet to return to the prestigious hangout thus breeding disparaging remarks despite assurances from close quarters that life would soon return there.
Or is there a correlation between the longstanding absence of Okocha‘s wife from the social circles and No 10‘s paralysed activities?
It is well known that she kept an eye on its operations.

Nigerian Rapper Da Grin was involved in a pretty serious car accident on Wednesday (April 14, 2010) and was hospitalized at Lagos University Teaching Hospital. He seemed to be a pretty stable condition after surgery to stitch some cuts received on his head. Accounts indicate that the wreck was caused by a cement delivery truck that collided with Da Grin's vehicle head on.
The incident took place in front of Alakara Police Station in Mushin, Lagos at about 2am last Wednesday morning.
He was immediately rushed to Tai Solarin Hospital in Mushin, but was later transferred to LUTH and remained unconscious in the intensive care unit (ICU) till early Thursday evening.

If you have not heard about "Green October" you probably from another planet or better still not yet born....This has been the word on the streets for the last couple of weeks.
Finally Vol 3 of the "Green October Mixtape" is here and as usual, well packaged and of course the best of African Acts in one place.....
I decided to find out what makes "Green October" thick so i contacted Harry Baba who is...............
So how did it all begin?
Where did the name come from?
I came up with the name Green October in early 2006 when I first thought of putting together a compilation of up and coming Nigerian artists.
“Green”, in this context, stands for the “people of the land”; all the diverse Nigerian peoples (Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa etc), their cultures and traditions. “Green” also represents the stunning Nigerian terrain, and the country’s rich natural resources.
“October” has three distinctive meanings:(1) the month Nigeria had her independence (October 1960) from British colonial rule, (2) it also signifies the month Harrison’s mother, Pauline I. Nwozo, passed away from a long struggle with Ovarian cancer, (October 1996). Finally, it symbolizes a new positive “awareness” or “perception” of the international community’s view of Nigeria and Nigerians as a whole. October in this sense represents the autumn season. Old leaves pass away and “fall” to make room for new leaves to grow and thrive. The positive, progressive presentation of a Nigeria that the rest of the world is unaccustomed too (the old leaves), dies off and re emerges as “something new”......More
Once in a while, music chooses a potential candidate to wield its nature of grace and harmony upon the masses. The art of style, delivery, melody and content is the ever glorious power the chosen one is blessed to attain. Throughout history music has made blatant whom would forgo this path of harmonious bliss….James Brown (RIP), Sammy Davis Jr, Curtis Mayfield, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Barry White, Otis Redding, Michael Jackson(RIP), Fela(RIP) , and many more…..
Today we see the music in its many forms through DJ Screw (RIP) , R.Kelly, Akon, Timberland, Neyo and to name a few, whom have taken full advantage of the power of music.
Is music about to make another choice? That question is yet to be answered as we explore the art of ENO… an undiscovered (artist), emotionally driven, singer/songwriter/producer/ residing in the city of Houston TX. Born and raised in Nigeria (and various parts of the world), this native African is true to his form and origin . With no fear and hesitation in his drive, its clear to see that this child has no problem claiming his a Nigerian- Houstonian ready to Pay his dues.
